Single SCORM store

We are working on a project, where we are required to build a central database for SCORM packages for a number of schools participating in project. Each school has it's own site collection, and classes are school's subsites. Our SCORM store would be yet another site collection. The thing is, we can't use Sharepoint OOB List View Web Part since our library would be in another site collection.

List View Web Part would be perfect, since it displays custom SLK actions for list items. Solution we are thinking about is to provide web part which would display SCORM library items and allow user to select them and copy to apriopriate class-scoped document library. But since there will be more than 20 gigabytes of packages, it might have big impact on storage and performance. Eventually we could also make school sites subsites of sitecollection where document library for packages would be, but this would make us rework what we did so far.

I wonder if any of You had to deal with similar scenario of creating and  maintaining single SCORM packages store and how did You eventually managed to solve it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If all the schools shared the same SLK database together with the central collection, then your instructors can just assign from the original location.

If you are using SharePoint 2010 then you can show items from different sites with the XSLT List View Web Part.
