Our scenario is that I have an existing WSS 3.0 site that uses WID and I want to add the SLK using SQL Server 2005 Express (instance name is SQL_WSS_CONTENT).
I followed the documentation for SLK version 220.127.116.11 and got up to the point of configuring SLK via Sharepoint Central Administration.
On the Central Admin SLK Configuration page, I have the following settings:
Site Collection: (manually selected)
SLK Database: SERVER\SQL_WSS_CONTENT
DB name: SLK
Option for Create DB checked
SLK Permissions: left at default to create "SLK Instructor" and "SLK Learner"
SLK Settings blank
I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but I would like to keep my existing Sharepoint infrastructure and not rebuild it (if possible). I have already tried other solutions on these discussions but it always comes back to the above error. I have also tried
the above settings; except I have manually created a DB and provided the name, but I get an error:
Cannot open database "SLK" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'.
More information has been written to the server event log.
Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: MSSQL$SQL_WSS_CONTENT
Event Category: (4)
Event ID: 18456
Time: 4:37:39 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I guess I solved my own problem.
The solution was to make sure that the Network Service had a login to the instance (SQL_WSS_CONTENT) and that the login was granted dbcreator or above.
I did this via SQL Server Management Studio Express.
I hope this helps others with this issue.
Thanks, this helped me after 2 hours of trying to get this running.
Someone needs to add that to a FAQ, WIKI or installation document.
