Question: Is it possible to update a SCORM training ZIP file after the training has been assigned to students without affecting users that have already returned them or are in progress?

Yes, it should be. That's why you need versioning turned on on the document libraries you are assigning from. It's my understanding that what you assign is a particular document and version to the learner. So if you then update the document it doesn't affect the ones you have already assigned. This does mean that if you update the document, then all the learners, including those who haven't yet started will get the original one assigned and not the updated one.

I don't know what would happen if you didn't have versioning turned on, assigned work, then turned it on and changed a document. I'd shy away from that one.

What if you find a simple error in an assignment and you need to correct it? Something that doesn't change the nature of a quiz, but perhaps you want to reword it to remove some ambiguity.

Does that mean I have to reassign everyone the new version? I guess so.
