if so, what should I do with the projects that come in the folders ?
Sorry ,  I'm confused

I've re-compiled and updated the installation so that Course Manager uses SLK 1.3.1 and installs with SLK 1.3.1. I've uploaded it to http://slk.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=9206.

I'm not convinced that it works properly once installed - it seems to be missing a couple of buttons on my test system, so if someone can check and let me know that would be great.

Hi Richard,

I already tried your latest build for SLK 1.3.1, and SLK Course Manager 1.3.1 (http://slk.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=9206).

I think there are some errors with SLK Course Manager (SLK CM) 1.3.1 listed below:
  1. Plan & Assign Webpart
    1. Plan & Assign always show "No Data Found" for every login users (users with Contributor & SLK Instructor permissions, or users that member of Owners). It didn't show toolbar with Save, and Delete buttons. It didn't show grid/list/table with 2 columns, ie. Activity Group, and Outcomes.
    2. SLK Activities always show "No Data Found" for every login users (users with Contributor & SLK Instructor permissions, or users that member of Owners). It didn't show grid/list/table with 2 columns, ie. Title, and Description.
  2. Monitor & Assess Webpart
    1. Monitor & Assess always show "No Data Found" for every login users (users with Contributor & SLK Instructor permissions, or users that member of Owners). It didn't show toolbar with Save, and Return to Learners buttons. It didn't show grid/list/table with 2 columns, ie. Name, and Course Total.
  3. I didn't understand the reason that you used Integrated Security=SSPI in SLK CM database connection string. If I signed in to my MOSS/WSS site using DOMAIN\UserA, then you must grant access for this user to our SLK CM database. But, the problem is there are no Windows users that have granted access to this database, except dbo (this Windows user is my MOSS/WSS application pool. Is this by design or by accident - user who configure SLK CM from SharePoint Central Administration?).

Thanks Henky,

That's what I'm getting too. Been digging through the code, but not got anywhere yet.

Integrated Security shouldn't be a problem. It should be connecting as the SharePoint application pool identity.

After several hours I've got to the bottom of it. The underlying problem was a project reference. On my Vista machine the version of Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles is 2.0, whereas on Windows Server 2003 it is 1.2, and it's not backward compatible. I've now recompiled referencing that the 1.2 version and re-uploaded it to the downloads page.

The real problem is the shocking error handling in Course Manager. "No Data Found" actually means "I've had a fatal error and can't possibly connect to get any data". There lots of catching of all exceptions and then ignoring the fact that there's been one.

I have tried your latest SLK CM 1.3.1 (after you recompiled it yesterday).

But, there are two errors describe below:
  1. There is "File not found." SharePoint error when I was adding "Plan & Assign" webpart into "Plan & Assign" page.
  2. The same problem occurred while adding "Monitor & Assess" webpart into "Monitor & Assess" page.
I checked "Plan & Assign" page after this error occurred using SPD 2007.
Your webpart was displayed in SPD screen, but there is "File not found." SharePoint error while opening webpart properties in this url http://<mossUrl>/_layouts/toolpane.aspx. But, toolpane.aspx file was not missing.

I'm also running into the "No Data Found" message.

Henky, Just discovered that you need to enable the "Course Manager Administration" feature on the site for the pages to be present.

Rilex. Try unistalling Course Manager, downloading it again and re-installing.

Richard,

That's my problem, because I already uninstalled it, and installed it back again using latest build (non Vista for Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles).
Things that I've done:
  1. Enabled "Course Manager Administration" feature in SharePoint Central Administration.
  2. Created new database for SLK CM using SharePoint Central Administration
  3. Enabled "Course Manager Administration" feature in my MOSS site.
  4. Added "Course Manager Pages" webpart => SUCCEEDED
The problem occured when:
  1. There is "File not found." SharePoint error when I was adding "Plan & Assign" webpart into "Plan & Assign" page.
  2. The same problem occurred while adding "Monitor & Assess" webpart into "Monitor & Assess" page.
Regards.

Richard / Henkyck

Sorry I've been out of touch for a couple of days.

Double check the following:

1. 12\template\admin\Course_Manager_Configure contains
 CourseManagerDBSchema.sql
CourseManagerConfigure.aspx
Info.gir
Wait.gif
CoursemanagerConfCs.dll

2. 12\Template\Features\Course_Manager_Configure  contains
CourseManager.Master
DocumentViewer.aspx
Monitor_and_Assess.aspx
Plan_and_Assign.aspx
SPDocumentSelectorIFrame.js
Placeholder.txt
elements.xml
feature.xml

3. Finally - I've had this problem a couple of times when I installed the new Configure part / dll. Most times it has been because there are two copies of the InstallerHelper.dll or CourseManagerConfCs.dll in the GAC - a copy of the old version and a copy of the new version. Since CourseManagerConfCs.dll is used by the SharePoint Admin processes I've found that you have to stop SPAdmin before replacing the DLL....

I'm sure you know but if you set in web.config
CallStack="true" and  AllowPageLevelTrace="true" on <SafeMode ... entry and
debug="true" on <compilation batch... entry...
SharePoint will provide you with sufficient info to discover exactly what file can't be found...  I had to do this to initially debug the source in the first place...

I'll be around today and tomorrow and will assist as I can.

Butch Gray

Richard / Hencky / Butch

Just downloaded the latest version from the Downloads page today and am having the same problem adding the Plan & Assign webpart.  The error references the Microsoft.Interop.Security.Azroles.  Discovered the file CoursemanagerConfCs.dll is missing from
my 12\template\admin\Course_Manager_Configure folder that Butch references above.

Is this critical and if so, how should I go about getting it there?

Thanks for your help,
Mike.

Madzack,

Sorry - but I misspoke about the dll. That will be in the GAC - (Windows\Assembly) and not in the 12 hive.

If you're getting the Azroles issue - that's most likely the binding issue that Richard found earlier - if compiled under Vista the reference will then fail when you install under Window 2003. I'll give the current uplaod a go as well.

Richard & Butch,

I think the "File not found" error cause by this.......

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles, Version=1.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

I am using MS Windows Server 2003 R2 SP1, and I found only 'Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' in my GAC folder.

Can you guys upload this file?
While we are waiting for file version 1.2.0.0, we can do something like this....
  1. Open your MOSS/WSS site web.config file
  2. Add this element below to your runtime/assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1"

    <dependentAssembly>
          <assemblyIdentity name="Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" culture="neutral" />
          <bindingRedirect oldVersion="1.2.0.0" newVersion="1.0.0.0" />
    </dependentAssembly>
  3. Then try again.

Thank's.

Regards.

After reading the message from henkyck, I double checked my GAC and AzRoles was not there, but it is in %windir%\Microsoft.NET\AuthMan\1.2.
Found this article which explains how this could happen and how to fix it.
Now I have AzRoles in the GAC but am still getting the error. Still working on it....

After applying the fix in the article below, I was still getting the error even though AzRoles was now in the GAC.

Figured it wouldn't hurt to run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Wizard and now the web parts are loading and the AzRoles error message is gone.

The only problem I am seeing now is graphics missing from the buttons on the Plan and Assign and Monitor and Assess pages.  Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Hope that helps.

Madzack,

Don't forget to run IISRESET after installing 'Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles, Version=1.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' into GAC.

Now, we have 2 versions (1.0.0.0 and 1.2.0.0) of Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles run side-by-side.

Been going through the code and the annoying thing is I think that AzRoles isn't even used! It is the dll for AzMan, which is a role-based access control framework, with roles created and maintained using a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in. However, all the security checking seems to be done by looking at the SLK Instructor role in the SharePoint security framework.

More details on AzMan at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb897401.aspx

Hello, after seeing all the previous comments, and get to the DLL error Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles, I tried to fix what MADZACK said, but when searching the directory mentioned in http://support.microsoft.com / kb/937292 not find the folder (\ Microsoft.NET \ AuthMan \ 1.2), I have a Windows Server 2008 SP1 and the DLL version is 2.0.0.0 , not 1.2.0.0

Someone has already been able to resolve the error Microsoft.Interop.Security.AzRoles ?

Right, I've had enough of it, I'm going to get rid of AuthMan/AzRoles.

I’m doing exactly the same in my versions. I’ll share any issues I find.

I've uploaded a version of Course Manager which does not depend on AuthMan/AzRoles. See http://slk.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=9206, SLK-CourseManager-1.3.1.1.zip.

If Course Manager 1.3.1 is working for you, there's no need to change to this one.

Did anyone find a resolution to the buttons not rendering properly on the Plan and Assign and Monitor and Assess web parts?

When I access the Plan and Assign page, the web part is missing the pictures / graphics on the Save and Delete Activity buttons.  Same thing is happening with the Save and Return to Learners buttons on the Monitor and Assess web part.

Other buttons on the web parts render correctly.

I am running release 1.3.1.1 on Server 2003 which also has Visual Studio 2008 installed.  MOSS has the December upgrade installed.  SQL Express is the database.  This is a single server installation for development and alpha testing.

Thanks for your help.
