Splitting Instructors and Learners

We have created an e-learning site and created an Instructors group and a learning group.  Currently if you are an instructor you can allocate assignments to all of the learners.  This isn't an ideal situation for us and I was wondering if there was away of associating/allocating certain Learners to certain Instructors and as such when that Instructor comes to assign a course to someone they only see people they are associated with.

Create several sites and split the learners and instructors appropriately. The when the instructor chooses a site to assign to they will only see the learners on that site.

I think there are many escenarios where a large list of learners is necessary:

  • Regulations requirere that all employees of certaing groups or all employees take some training, and spliting the training in different sites and groups of learners is really complex to comply and guarantee in a single view that they are compliant.
  • Adminitration time, for 2000 or more learners this will be a lot of work for the SLK adminsitrator, creating sites and trainings one by one to split them all and then manage them.
  • This will present a lot fo sites to admin.

I hope we could get SLK to manage big groups of learners by changing the code from a post back mode to other model, so that this escenario would be possible. I know this is NOT easy, but should be definetly be part of the roadmap, as its one of the highest issues voted:  http://slk.codeplex.com/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=19682

Thanks!
