The teacher want to assign a word document with questions to the students. The students open the document, answer the questions, and want to submit the document. Is this possible with SLK?

Unless the content is interactive, students' response cannot be stored. This is therefore not possible for the raw word docs. For interactivity, elearning content is required, which could be generated with the help of authoring tools. Information on quite a few of these can be found in earlier discussions here.

You could always have the students fill out the Word doc and submit it to a doclib on the site, then submit the assignment once that's done. You can then look at the doclib, grade the word doc, and enter the grade in the SLK grading page.

Going forward, someone in the community could implement a "assignment drop box" feature to allow more automated workflow around Office documents.
